“Daniel L. Gibson” called to assist “MSC Opera” (Medevac)

Saturday 30th August 2014

A request was received by Guernsey Coastguard from the Cruise Ship MSC “Opera” that she had a severely ill passenger that required transferring to the local Hospital, once the vessel had anchored in the Little Russell, just off St Peter Port. Unfortunately the “Flying Christine lll” remains off service so the Lifeboat was tasked to carry out the Medevac taking two St Johns Ambulance Paramedics with them.

2035 A call was received by Guernsey Coastguard from the Crossma that a small French cruiser was unable to proceed. The French vessel was disabled, with a rope around the propeller, 5 miles south of St Martins Point. As no other vessels were in the area, Relief Lifeboat “Daniel L Gibson “was tasked to assist and tow the vessel back to St Peter Port.

2224 Lifeboat back in St Peter Port, with the French vessel in tow. St John and Ambulance and Rescue in attendance to check over the three French Sailors. The vessels propeller will be cleared in the morning.

“Daniel L. Gibson” called to assist “Gina Louise” GU110

0155 A call was received by Guernsey Coastguard from the local fishing boat “Gina Louise” that she had suffered a hydraulic failure and was unable to proceed. The fishing vessel was fishing just outside St Peter Port on the Great Bank. As no other vessels were in the area, Relief Lifeboat “Daniel L Gibson “was tasked to assist and tow the vessel back to St Peter Port.

French Yacht “Douz” hits rocks off Herm

The relief lifeboat Daniel L Gibson was launched at 13:45 on Friday 22nd August 2014 to go to the aid of a French yacht with 5 crew on board which had struck rocks off the East coast of Herm.

The lifeboat was alongside the ”Douz” at 13:59 and put 2 crew aboard with salvage pumps.

Four of the yacht’s crew were transferred to the lifeboat and when the water ingress was under control a tow was established.

The lifeboat arrived back at St Peter Port with the casualty at 15:20 where it was craned out of the water onto the top of the old lifeboat slip for assessment.

Engine failure on french yacht

The relief lifeboat Daniel L Gibson was called out at 05:10 local time on Thursday 21st August 2014, to go to the assistance of a French yacht which had engine failure at the top of the Little Russel. As conditions were calm and the vessel was unable to sail, and no other vessel was able to offer assistance, the lifeboat was tasked.

The Daniel L Gibson returned with the casualty in tow and arrived safely back at St Peter Port at 06:00, and was back on station at 06:10.

Guernsey Yacht “Majic” suffers steering problems

At 1806 on Saturday 16th August 2014, Guernsey Coastguard received a call from the Guernsey Yacht “Majic” with (4) crew on board requesting assistance. The yacht reported steering problems and was unable to proceed.

The relief St Peter Port Lifeboat, the “Daniel L Gibson” departed St Peter Port at 1908 and found the casualty 2nm East of St Martins point at 1929, the Lifeboat managed to connect a tow rope to the casualty at 1942, then towed the yacht back to St Peter Port harbour arriving at 2028.
